A visually impaired gentleman fell victim to a fr@udulent scheme orchestrated by an acquaintance who falsely promised him ownership of a residential plot.
Jairosi Mapadza, aged 46, found himself deceived by Ketai Dehwe, 37, in a regrettable turn of events.
In January, Jairos visited Mhangura and entrusted Ketai with the task of collecting $400 from two individuals, namely Mai Marvis and Mai Patience, to hold on to until his return.
Recalling the incident, Jairos narrated how Ketai attempted to make amends by offering him a residential plot in Magada. However, investigations later revealed that the plot was owned by another individual.
“In the presence of my son, Welldone Mapadza, Ketai presented me with the @lleged residential plot in Magada, exploiting my visual impairment,” recounted Jairos.
“On April 9, when I contacted Ketai to finalize the paperwork for the plot, she claimed to be waiting for the official confirmation from the registered owner. This raised suspicion in my mind.”
Further inquiries disclosed that the plot in question rightfully belonged to Tauro Shingirai, prompting Jairos to take immediate action by reporting the matter to the police.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza verified the incident, stating that Ketai is facing charges of fr@ud.
“We are currently investigating a case of fr@ud involving a residential plot in Epworth,” confirmed Insp Chakanza.
