Maria Branyas Morera, the world’s oldest person, has passed away in Spain at the age of 117.
The announcement was made by her family in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, August 20. Guinness World Records also confirmed her d3ath, noting that Maria d!ed on Monday, August 20.
Maria Branyas, who was born in the United States, had lived in Catalonia, Spain, for the past two decades, where she passed away peacefully at a nursing home.

At the time of her d3ath, she was 117 years and 168 days old, making her the eighth-oldest person with a verified age in history.
Her passing was also confirmed by the Gerontology Research Group, underscoring her status as a remarkable figure in the realm of longevity.
