Zimbabwean social commentator Tawona Shadaya Knight stirred up conversation once again, this time with a pointed message directed at men regarding Mother’s Day. As the world celebrated mothers yesterday, Shadaya took to X to question men’s priorities, particularly in their treatment of their mothers compared to their romantic partners.
In a tweet, Shadaya highlighted the stark contrast in men’s spending habits, noting that many splurge on their girlfriends during events like Valentine’s Day while neglecting to show the same level of generosity to their mothers. He provocatively suggested that some men prioritise the pleasure their partners provide over the life-giving care provided by their mothers.
“Young man, yesterday was Mother’s Day, ask yourself did you spend as much as you did on Valentine’s Day? You broke the bank to spoil your girlfriend but you did nothing or the bare minimum for your mother. See how foolish you are, you treasure the bre@st that gives you pleasure more than the breast that gave you life,” he said.
Known for his controversial viewpoints, Shadaya didn’t hold back in his critique, suggesting that valuing romantic relationships over the bond with one’s mother is misguided. He argued that while money spent on girlfriends may offer temporary gratification, investments in one’s parents yield long-term benefits, emphasising the enduring significance of the maternal relationship.

“The money and the things you do for girlfriends may open their legs for you, but the one you spend on your parent(s) will surely open doors for you A reminder, that girlfriend of yours that you value more than your parent(s) at any moment can become your ex girlfriend, but your mother will remain your mother Learn OR perish!!!,” he posted.
Shadaya’s message sparked a flurry of responses and discussions on social media, with many weighing in on the complex dynamics between romantic and familial bonds. While some agreed with Shadaya’s sentiments, others challenged his perspective, highlighting the nuances of modern relationships and familial dynamics.
