“You Will Answer To My Goblins…” ; Parent Warns Headmaster

In a bizarre turn of events, a parent at Musenyereki Primary School in Zaka, Zimbabwe, threatened the school head with witchcraft over a fee hike. The parent, clearly fed up with the situation, warned the headmaster, “We’re coming, and you’ll answer to our goblins at night or leave.”

The controversy began when the school head raised fees from $30 to $40, citing additional costs such as a computer levy, security guard, and school feeding program. However, parents are unhappy with the lack of transparency, particularly regarding the computer levy. It’s not like they’re asking for a detailed breakdown of the costs or anything.

The situation has become so dire that teachers are caught in the middle, with frequent transfers due to the school head’s management style. Teachers have expressed concerns about the head’s approach, saying she struggles with diplomacy in a rural setting. “She cites statutes that parents don’t understand,” said one teacher. “She needs to balance legal requirements with community understanding.” Yeah, because that’s exactly what’s needed – more bureaucracy and less common sense.

One parent has called for the school head’s transfer, arguing that the situation harms learners. “She should humble herself and convince parents, not impose herself,” the parent said. “If she can’t, she should transfer. Working where parents don’t want you is challenging.” It’s hard to argue with that logic.

Will the school head find a way to mend fences with parents and teachers, or will the situation continue to escalate? Only time will tell if the goblins will make an appearance or if common sense will prevail.
