A 40-year-old Zambian man is set to appear in court on Tuesday after being arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday morning.
He faces charges of dr_g trafficking and k!dnapping, and is expected to appear alongside eight other accused individuals in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court.
According to Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS), the man’s arrest was the result of a multi-disciplinary task team operation.
Reports indicate that SAPS had been monitoring his movements closely before apprehending him as he entered the country from Zambia.
The arrest comes amid a surge in k!dnapping cases in South Africa, with several businessmen being targeted for ransom this year.
The SAPS has been working tirelessly to address these cases and bring perpetrators to justice.
The accused will face charges related to k!dnapping and dr_g offenses, and their court appearance on Tuesday marks the beginning of their legal journey.
