A ZANU PF candidate in Chinhoyi has ruffled residents by locking the borehole he drilled when he campaigned for a 2023 election Parliamentary seat, as a loss glares.
Zimbos are waiting for the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to finish counting votes and announce the official results of the 2023 Harmonised General Elections, which started on 23 August and are folding today.
Last night, President Emmerson Mnangagwa extended the voting period to 24 August for mostly urban-based polling stations which opened polls late over ZEC’s failure to deliver the local council ballot papers. The extension only applied to polling stations that opened voting late yesterday, since some started assisting voters as late as 6pm.
Regardless, most polling stations across Zimbabwe voted on time and political parties are now collating votes and sharing V11 forms as they wait for ZEC to start announcing the official results.
Preliminary poll indications show that in Chinhoyi, ZANU PF MP candidate Thomas Chidzomba is trailing behind Leslie Mhangwa of CCC.
In the run-up to the 23 August election, Chidzomba blessed Chinhoyi and installed a borehole to provide people with clean and safe water, considering the challenges faced in most urban areas in the country.
As he showed his caring side, Chidzomba hoped Chinhoyi residents would remember his act of kindless and vote for him in the election. As fate would have it, the people are seemingly leaning more towards CCC over him.
ZEC is yet to officially announce the winner of the Parliamentary poll in the Chinhoyi constituency.
Before ZEC officially announces the duly-elected MP, ZANU PF’s Thomas Chidzomba pulled an unexpected move and closed his tap. The aggrieved aspiring candidate moved early this morning and locked the solar-powered borehole he drilled for Chinhoyi residents.
In a video, shocked residents were complaining that he locked off the borehole so people in Chinhoyi won’t get any water.
Social media users mirrored the anger in Chinhoyi.
