Trailblazing stand-up comedian Learnmore Jonasi will represent Zimbabwe on America’s Got Talent in a development set to catapult his career.
Learnmore, known as “The Village Boy,” has made a significant impact in the US with his unique brand of humour. He was the People’s Choice award winner in Steve Harvey’s Stand Up Spotlight competition in 2019, bringing him international recognition and acclaim.
He relocated to the US in 2022 after winning a grant with the Steel City Arts Foundation in Pittsburgh. This organisation supports comedians and artists worldwide by offering training and performance opportunities.
In the United States, Learnmore has participated in various comedy festivals and competitions, which have showcased his talent to a broader audience. His performances often highlight his Zimbabwean heritage and experiences, allowing him to connect with diverse audiences through universal themes of everyday life.
Last April, Learnmore rocked the sold-out Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York City, one of the biggest stand-up comedy stages in the world. He was the best comic at the Boston Comedy Festival a month later and in June 2023, he scooped the Audience Choice Award at the Jersey City Comedy Festival at Art House.
It seems Learnmore is not stopping, and he now wants to spread his wings.
The stand-up comedian recently announced that he has joined the auditions for America’s Got Talent, a weekly talent competition in which various performers battle for a US$1 million cash prize.
He beamed on Facebook:
“Yep!!! I’m Auditioning for America’s Got Talent this year, representing Zimbabwe.”
