A Zimbabwean man, who allegedly k!lled a countryman on Christmas Day in Botswana last year following a dispute over gold and has been on the run for four months, has been arrested.
Themba Nkosi (29) was recently apprehended by Kutlwano police after evading capture for four months in the neighboring country, as reported by the media in Botswana.
Nkosi was arraigned last week for m_rder at the Francistown Magistrate Courts.
He was not asked to plead before being remanded in custody until May 23.
Nkosi is accused of k!lling Hillary Ntsimanga, another Zimbabwean, whose butchered body was discovered lying in a bush on December 25 last year.
Reports indicated that Nkosi was arrested in Francistown’s Block 7 location, the same area where Ntsimanga’s body was discovered.
They further indicated that the two Zimbabweans, who were illegal gold miners, had allegedly fallen out, leading to the murd3r.
The reports also suggested that the duo was using Nkosi’s detector, who then wanted to deprive Ntsimanga of gold because it had been detected by his machine.
Sources told the media in Botswana that the misunderstanding could have led to Ntsimanga’s murd3r.
Botswana’s Directorate of Public Prosecution Officer, Thatayaone Chasara, submitted in court that Nkosi was a potential flight risk.
“The accused is an illegal immigrant who we fear might return to his country of origin if granted bail,” Chasara submitted.
The court upheld the prosecution’s submissions and ordered Nkosi’s detention.
