President Emmerson Mnangagwa says Zimbabwe and Mozambique will continue to consolidate the strong ties between the two nations. Speaking at the commissioning of the newly-refurbished Machipanda Railway Line which links Zimbabwe and Mozambique, President Mnangagwa congratulated his counterpart, President Filipe Nyusi for carrying out the rehabilitation work for the line which was defunct for the last 26 years.
As highlighted by President Mnangagwa, the latest development will see an in increase in trade from 600 000 metric tonnes to 3,5 million metric tonnes.
Currently, long winding queues of trucks carrying goods have become the norm on either side of the border and President Mnangagwa said the coming on board of the railway will not only provide a solution to this, but also a cheaper option for moving goods.
As Zimbabwe remembers the Chimoio bombing, President Mnangagwa said both Zimbabwe and Mozambique must never forget the rich liberation history they share. He said Zimbabwe will never forget the role that Mozambique played in Zimbabwes independence.
