ZIMBABWE and China are working on expanding business relations for mutual benefit in line with the vision of an upper middle-income society by 2030.
ZANU PF politburo members met officials from the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD) in Harare this Wednesday to deliberate on issues affecting the two countries and the world at large.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa said they agreed to cooperate in various areas, including mining, farming, technological advancement, manufacturing, and infrastructure development.
“We discussed economic cooperation, and we identified the seven key areas where Zimbabwe has world class resources which attract world class capital. We identified the tobacco sector, we cooperated with China, where China Tobacco is the largest tobacco company in the world. Our Tobacco industry saved the land reform programme from collapsing, for many years tobacco was our leading foreign currency earner,” said Ambassador Mutsvangwa.
Expansion of cooperation between Zimbabwe and China in the gold sector through supply of mining equipment was also extensively discussed.
“We also identified other areas of strategic cooperation such as gold, where gold is everywhere in Zimbabwe and China can collaborate in the exploitation of the resources for the benefit of Zimbabweans,” he added.
The CPAPD delegation was led by its secretary general, Mr An Yuejun who was accompanied by Ms Jia Peng, Ms Huang Han and Ms Zhu Haoze.
The ZANU PF team included Secretary for External Affairs, Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, Chitepo School of Ideology Principal, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha and party directors.
