Zimbabwe’s government has taken a significant step to boost agricultural productivity, handing over 72 tractors and two combine harvesters worth US$3.7 million to the Youth Bank. The machinery, sourced from Belarus, will be lent to young farmers at a concessionary interest rate, with farmers expected to pay 50% of the machinery’s value.¹
Agriculture Minister Anxious Masuka hailed the initiative as a crucial part of efforts to modernize the agricultural sector and enhance food security. “Today, we celebrate the realization of a vision of empowered and self-sufficient youth ready to transform not only the agricultural sector but also the future of our nation,” he said.
Masuka emphasized the importance of young minds in tackling challenges such as food production, climate change, and sustainability. He also expressed gratitude to partners who contributed to the initiative, particularly the Youth Bank, which played a crucial role in facilitating the project.
