A delegation from Zimbabwe, led by Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honorable Advocate Misheck Mugadza, has participated in the celebration of Mozambique’s 49th Independence anniversary at Samora Machel Square in Chimoio.
According to a post by Nick Mangwana, Mozambique gained its independence on June 25, 1975.
Mozambique’s struggle for independence stemmed from various factors.
Initially, unrest and frustration among indigenous Mozambican populations led to conflict in 1964.

They perceived foreign rule as exploitation and mistreatment, primarily benefiting Portuguese economic interests in the region.
Starting around 1500, Portuguese trading posts and forts replaced the Arabic commercial and military influence, becoming regular ports on the new European sea route to the east.
Mozambique achieved independence through armed struggle due to the inflexibility of the Portuguese colonial regime, the strength of Mozambican nationalist movements, international support for liberation efforts, and the failure of peaceful avenues for political change.
