The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has announced a change of venue for the upcoming World Cup qualifier between the Warriors and Benin. The match, scheduled for March 20, 2025, will now be held at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, South Africa.
Why Durban?
IFA’s statement explained that the decision was made after exploring various options. Johannesburg’s stadiums were unavailable due to existing rugby fixtures and other events, and the Cape Town Stadium is currently undergoing pitch renovations.
Moses Mabhida Stadium stood out as a strong alternative, recognized for its world-class facilities and experience hosting prestigious international matches, factors deemed ideal for the Warriors’ playing style.
ZIFA expressed their eagerness to bring the Warriors closer to their dedicated fans in Durban and neighboring areas.

ZIFA initially aimed to host the match in Polokwane. However, the venue was allocated to Bafana Bafana in January, prompting the search for an alternative location.
This announcement comes amid a challenging situation for Zimbabwe, which currently lacks a stadium suitable for hosting international matches. The National Sports Stadium is currently under a ban imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
ZIFA is urging Zimbabwean fans to attend the match in large numbers. They encourage supporters to wear the team’s colors – vibrant yellow and green – and rally behind the Warriors as they strive for qualification.
