Tarisai Musakanda, a 29-year-old cricket player, was arrested yesterday for allegedly st@bbing his wife, Tinodiwanashe Makunike (Mai Dewei), in Kwekwe.
The incident occurred following a misunderstanding between the couple. According to National Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi through H-Metro, Musakanda faces attempted m_rder charges.
The altercation began when Mai Dewei hired two men to build a shelter for her vending site, and they visited her to collect payment. Musakanda clashed with the men, leading to a violent confrontation.
Musakanda allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab Mai Dewei, causing injuries to her hands and back. The incident occurred around 3 am yesterday, according to a neighbor.
Musakanda has played for Zimbabwe’s national cricket team in various international matches but has not played since nearly two years ago.
“We were awakened by their noise, Mai Dewei shouting for help and we rushed there. Upon arriving, Musakanda was holding a knife and his wife trying to block and she got injured.
“When we restrained them, Mai Dewei had been stabbed on her back and we rushed her to the hospital.
“Musakanda was arrested and is detained at Kwekwe Central Police Station.
“The two have been at each other’s throat several times and Musakanda once beat her up with a bet stick,” said the neighbour.
