A Zimbabwean cattle rancher named Collins Tafireyi made history in South Africa by purchasing a prestigious Boran Stud bull, known as Lot 10 Cyclone, for an astounding R8 million (US$444,000).
This historic transaction took place at the esteemed Bull Ring Auction House in Davel, Mpumalanga, during the Hurwitz Farming Production Auction held at 11 am yesterday.
Collins Tafireyi, who runs the Sinyo Boran Stud in Hwedza, Mashonaland East, outmaneuvered his friend and neighboring competitor, Rogers Sithole of Black Ox Farming, in a fierce bidding war.
Despite the competition, Tafireyi emerged victorious, setting a new benchmark for auction prices across all breeds.

This auction, organized by Hurwitz Farming, is a significant event in the cattle industry, drawing Boran aficionados and buyers from various regions. Hurwitz Farming has been a cornerstone in promoting the Boran breed in South Africa for nearly three decades.
Their journey began in 1993 with embryos from the rare Mafundzalo herd in Zambia, leading to the establishment of one of the world’s largest registered Boran herds.
Following this landmark purchase, the record-setting Boran bull will soon make its journey to Zimbabwe, marking a new chapter in Tafireyi’s burgeoning cattle ranching venture.
