Students who sat for the Ordinary and Advanced Level exams but didn’t complete the required Continuous Assessment Learning Area (CALA) tasks will not receive their results, even if they passed the written exams.
According to Zimpapers, ZIMSEC board chairperson Professor Paul Mapfumo emphasized that meeting the CALA requirements is a prerequisite for accessing exam results.
“The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s position is that if a candidate does not have a CALA mark, then there will be no results even if the theoretical part of the examination was written,” he said.
This means that learners who didn’t fulfill this obligation will be unable to view their grades, despite having taken the theoretical portion of the exams.

Earlier this year, the Government introduced changes to the education curriculum, renaming Continuous Assessment Learning Area (CALA) to school-based projects, which focus on practical skills demonstrated in a school setting.
The number of learning areas under CALA has been reduced for infant and junior levels, as well as secondary school levels, to make the curriculum more manageable.
Meanwhile, ZIMSEC has made A and O level examination results available online for candidates and authorised personnel to access.
Heads of examination centers can collect printed results from ZIMSEC regional offices. The June exam session typically has fewer candidates than the November session, with many students retaking exams or only sitting for a few subjects.
This year, 32,026 candidates registered for the O level June exams, with 30,088 actually sitting for exams in various subjects. This represents an increase from last year’s June exam session.
