The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of the individuals who tragically lost their lives in a severe road accident on August 30, 2023.
This unfortunate incident occurred at the 60 km point along the Harare-Mutare Road when a Honda Fit car collided head-on with a VW Touareg.
Initially, reports indicated that 7 people had lost their lives due to the collision between the Honda Fit and the VW. However, the ZRP’s official statement reveals that the accident’s death toll has now risen to 8 lives.
The unfortunate incident took place when a Honda Fit, which was carrying passengers in violation of regulations on the Marondera-Harare route, collided head-on with a VW Touareg at the 60 km mark along the Harare-Mutare Highway.
The driver of the Honda Fit, travelling from Marondera towards Harare, encroached onto the oncoming traffic lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the VW vehicle which was heading towards Marondera.
Tragically, 7 people in the Honda Fit, including the driver, lost their lives immediately upon impact. Additionally, two individuals from the same car and one from the VW sustained injuries.
The deceased victims were transported to the Marondera District Hospital mortuary, while the injured were quickly taken to the same hospital for medical treatment.

Walter MARIMO, a 19-year-old male
Watch SILAS, a 36-year-old male
Gatawa SHADRECK, a 46-year-old male
Songore MASIYIWA, a 50-year-old male
Desmond MAKOSO, a 28-year-old male
Kenneth MABWE, a 29-year-old male
Andress GONDOLOSI, a 29-year-old female
The ZRP also issued a plea to all motorists to exercise utmost caution on the roads. They emphasized the importance of avoiding excessive speeding and risky overtaking manoeuvres.
