The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed that Johane Mudzikati, a 36-year-old individual, was arrested on July 19, 2024, in connection with a case of smuggling.
The arrest occurred after police manning a security checkpoint at the 269km peg along the Harare-Chirundu Road intercepted a white Volvo super link truck with foreign vehicle registration numbers.
Upon conducting a search of the truck, the police discovered a substantial amount of contraband goods. The search revealed 427 cases of Castle Light beer, each containing 24 x 300ml bottles.
Additionally, the police found 271 cases of Castle Light beer, with each case containing 6 x 300ml bottles. Furthermore, the authorities recovered 586 cases of Brutal Fruit cider beer, with each case containing 24 x 275ml bottles.
The search also turned up 133 cases of Milkit drinks, with each case containing 12 x 200ml units. Moreover, the police found 90 cases of Stella Artots beer, with each case containing 24 x 300ml bottles.
In addition to these beverages, the authorities discovered a large quantity of personal care items, including 98 cases of Protex soap, with each case containing 8 x 12 X150g bars.
The police also seized a significant amount of snacks and confectionery items. Specifically, they found 949 boxes of Simba lays chips, with each box containing 30 x 23g packets.
The authorities also recovered 618 boxes of Chelsea Wish cream biscuits, with each box containing 12 x 200g packets. Finally, they seized 1,320 boxes of Amazon cookies, with each box containing 12 x 200g packets.
The arrest and seizure of these goods is a major blow to illegal activities in Zimbabwe and demonstrates the effectiveness of the ZRP’s efforts to combat smuggling and other forms of criminal activity.
