Elephant Chaos in Chirundu: When Wildlife Trumps Human Lives

In Chirundu, residents are at their wit’s end as rogue elephants wreak havoc on their homes and livelihoods. The culprits? Wild elephants with a taste for destruction. And who’s supposed to stop them? Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks), apparently.

It’s like these elephants need a shepherd to guide them, but instead, ZimParks seems more interested in paperwork than problem-solving. Despite repeated reports, they’ve taken zero action. Their solution? Call them while the elephant is destroying your property. Because, you know, that’s totally practical.

When residents complain, ZimParks shifts the blame, claiming the people provoked the elephants by settling in their territory. Um, didn’t ZimParks allocate this land for human habitation? Priorities, anyone?

The community is fed up, and rightly so. Are wild animals more valuable than human lives? It seems ZimParks needs to reevaluate its priorities. The people of Chirundu deserve protection, not indifference.

The anger and frustration are palpable. Residents are demanding action, not excuses. Will ZimParks finally step up, or will they continue to play a game of “elephant roulette” with people’s lives? The clock is ticking.
