A devastating incident occurred in village 3 Dromoland Nyathi ,Nkayi , on Friday , resulting in the the death of a 1- year- and- 5 months- old baby girl. The infant was sleeping in a house that was tragically consumed by fire, causing her a painful demise , according to the police , the incident happened at a homestead in a village, leaving behind a trail of sorrow loss.
Authorities have launched an investigation in to the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. Prelimary reports indicate that the house where the baby was sleeping in caught fire , resulting in the infant’s death. The exact cause of death remains unknown. At the time of the incident, the mother had left the baby lying on the bed while escorting the victim’s older brother to school.
Tragic incidents of children dying in home fires are alarmedly common in Zimbabwe Recent examples include a November 2023 incident where two minors aged 4 and 1year 6months lost their lives while a 3year old suffered burns. In October 2022 separate fires in Harare and Shamva claimed the lives of two infants aged 7 months and 2years .
