South African Police Service (SAPS) National Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, confirmed the tragic deaths of three missing police officers. The bodies of Constables Keamogetswe Buys, Boipelo Senoge, and Cebekhulu Linda were found in the Hennops River, along with two other victims. One of the other victims was identified as an administrative clerk attached to the Lyttelton Police Station.
A high-level team of investigators, assisted by various units, tracked the officers’ last known location to an area along the N1 highway. They discovered vehicle parts believed to be from the officers’ Volkswagen Polo, which led them to a Renault Kangoo panel van at the riverbank.
Divers recovered the bodies of the admin clerk and Constable Senoge on Monday. The search was suspended due to lack of visibility but resumed the next morning, resulting in the recovery of Constable Linda’s body and a fourth decomposed body, which is yet to be identified.
General Masemola expressed his condolences to the families and SAPS members, describing the news as difficult. The SAPS is working to identify the fourth body and determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
