The journey of Reverand Samuel Mutendi the founder of Zion Christian Church (ZCC) Mbungo who endured persecution to spread the word of God during colonial period.
Samuel Mutendi born 1880 is baptised by the holy spirit whilst serving as a policeman in Chegutu/Hartley. He was dismissed from police in 1913 for his numerous Pentecostal seizures whilst on police duty. He went back to his rural home in Bikita at Mubveve Mission Station.
Under the guidance of the holy spirit in 1923 Samuel journeys to South Africa and receives water baptism from the Zion Apostolic Faith Mission (ZAFM) in Pretoria led by Rev Mahlangu in which members spoke in tongues. In Zimbabwe by then people were worshipping our traditional ancestors so he needed guidance and mentorship from fellow brothers in South Africa who had already started African Independent churches.
Samuel Mutendi returns to Southern Rhodesia/Zimbabwe as a ZAFM missionary and commissioned Reverand begins to preach the word of God baptising people and performing many faith miracles in 1923.
