A South African man has found himself in a complex situation within his Ethical Non-Monogamy (ENM) relationship, where both partners consent to engaging with multiple individuals. Expressing his concerns, he revealed that his partner, who works on a sizable construction project away from him and returns home for brief intervals, recently disclosed her pregnancy.
Despite their consistent use of protection, he harbors doubts regarding his paternity due to the nature of their arrangement.
“Since the men outnumber the women, she has no problems finding partners,” the man explained, highlighting the dynamics of their relationship.
While he welcomes the prospect of parenthood, he remains apprehensive about assuming responsibility for a child he may not father.
“I am excited for a baby and happy we are starting a family; however, I don’t have any interest in paying to raise someone else’s child,” he expressed candidly.

In a bid to alleviate his uncertainties, the man insisted on a paternity test, a request met with resistance from his partner.
Faced with her refusal, he asserted his decision not to be listed on the birth certificate without conclusive evidence of paternity, indicating his intention to vacate their shared residence to avoid being perceived as the child’s legal guardian.
“Like I said, I have no problem raising a child that isn’t mine. I just won’t pay for the privilege,” he concluded firmly, underscoring his commitment to clarity and fairness in the face of an intricate familial situation.
