Smartphone and Chipmaking giant, Samsung electronics’ labour union in South Korea has called for a one-day strike following a delay in the pay negotiations.
According to sources, this is the first ever strike and walk out by more than 2000 of the corporation’s workers in demand for better wages.
The unioned workers gathered in South Korea’s capital city, Seoul in their thousands to protest for improved working conditions and wages.
“We can’t stand persecution against labour unions anymore. We are declaring a strike in the face of the company’s neglect of labourers,” a union representative said during a live-streamed news conference.
Samsung Electronics is the world’s largest maker of memory chips, smartphones and televisions and analyst fear that this strike could affect the firm’s production and its global supply of electronics.
