Zimbabwe has seen a sharp decline in cholera cases with the daily statistics for the past one week showing cases at or below two per day.
The Ministry of Health and Child Care has expressed relief at the significant drop in new cases, which is a clear indication that efforts to contain the outbreak are yielding positive results.
According to the latest statistics, the number of new cholera cases has been steadily declining over the past week.
“This is a welcome development and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our healthcare workers, health officials, and other stakeholders who have been working tirelessly to contain the outbreak,” said Dr Douglas Mombeshora.
The ministry has attributed the decline in cases to a combination of factors, including improved sanitation and hygiene practices, increased awareness and education among the public, and enhanced surveillance and response mechanisms.
However, officials have warned that the situation is not yet out of the woods, and continued vigilance is necessary to prevent a resurgence of the outbreak.
“We urge everyone to remain vigilant and continue to practice good hygiene practices, such as washing hands regularly, using clean water and proper sanitation facilities, and avoiding sharing food or drinks with people who may be infected,” said the minister.
