Award-winning international journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has mocked dancehall musician Seh Calaz after releasing a freestyle video in which he sings a dancehall song. Chin’ono posted the video with a caption stating, “The return of the Ghetto kid… Weh Seh Calaz deh? A mi man run tings.” In the video, Chin’ono’s lyrics include, “Tell Seh Calaz we run dancehall.”
Chin’ono did not stop at the lyrics; he also tagged Seh Calaz’s ex-wife, Moira Knight, asking her where Seh Calaz is and asserting that Moira should tell Calaz he is wanted for a Sound Clash.
“Where is Seh Calaaz Moira Knight?Tell him kuti arikudiwa kusound clash“
However, the video received criticism from some netizens, who questioned whether Chin’ono was intoxicated. Chin’ono addressed the issue, stating:

“Why do some of my people think you can only have fun when you are drunk or high?
Some of us have fun anytime without taking anything because enjoyment is a way of life.
Don’t wait to get drunk to have fun, doing so means you are living a miserable life that needs substances to be enjoyable.
There is this misconception that you have to be intoxicated to have fun, when in reality, fun can be found in the simple things in life like music, sport, debates or anything that makes you happy.
Why reserve joy and laughter for those “special occasions” when you have had a few drinks?
The most memorable moments in life can be the spontaneous ones, the ones where you are simply enjoying the company of good friends and family, or maybe taking in a beautiful sunset, all without the need for any substances.
I have noticed that every time I share a happy moment some followers say “mudhara madhakwa.”
No, I will be sober, I just love life and at times I want to share those happy moments with people who understand the things I love like dancehall reggae music.
I can’t be talking about politics daily nonstop, I do other things like read books or write about the simple things in life.
I have to relate to the people that follow me, young people love dancehall, so all I am doing is reminding them that I am with them, that is why they like following me for politics, I am one of them,” he said.
In the meantime, Chin’ono’s video has left many entertained and impressed by his hidden talent. Who knew journalism and dancehall could mix so well?
