Tatenda Mikishoni, a human resources officer for Chikomba district in Zimbabwe’s Primary and Secondary Education ministry, has been arrested and faced court for allegedly misappropriating US$15 000 intended for the importation of a vehicle.
The alleged fraud came to light when Sakura Vuta Dewatering (PVT) Ltd engaged Mikishoni’s services in April this year to import a Toyota Hilux Vigo Champ double cab, having previously utilized his assistance for similar transactions.
On April 29, the company paid him a US$10,000 deposit, which he deposited into his personal account, followed by an additional US$5,797 on April 30 as a top-up payment, bringing the total amount acknowledged by Mikishoni to US$15 797.
However, after receiving the funds, he was required to transfer US$15 190 to Be Forward’s account, yet he only deposited US$4 588 and allegedly misappropriated the remaining US$10 602 for personal use.
The discrepancies prompted Sakura to report the matter to the police, leading to Mikishoni’s arrest.
He was granted bail set at US$300 by Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi and is scheduled to return to court on October 11 as investigations continue.
