Prophet Talent Madungwe, a 38-year-old resident of Hatfield, Harare, was recently sentenced at the Epworth Magistrates’ Court for two vi0lations of the Road Traffic Act, specifically for driving without a valid license and negligent driving.
The incident occurred on August 6, 2024, when Madungwe was navigating his Toyota Aqua out of his home and collided with a Nissan NP300 single cab on a strip road adjacent to Airport Road, resulting in minor damage to the other vehicle’s load box.
Upon being charged, it was revealed that Madungwe did not possess a valid driver’s license at the time of the accident, raising concerns about his road safety awareness.
Following legal proceedings, he received a wholly suspended four-month prison sentence for the first count, contingent upon his adherence to traffic laws regarding negligent driving for the next five years.
For the second count, he received a six-month prison sentence, of which three months were suspended for five years, during which he must not repeat similar offenses.
The additional three months will be served through 105 hours of community service, emphasizing the court’s commitment to promoting responsible behavior on the roads.
