Arsenal cut the Premier League leading gap which Liverpool set following it’s emphatic win over West Ham on Sunday night. Gunners’ 3-1 comeback victory against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on the new year eve brought Arsenal to just six points behind Liverpool.
Gunners were behind after Bryan Mbeumo’s early strike in the 13th minute but former Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus leveled before the half time. However just five minutes after the half time the Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino gave the visitor a lead.
Arteta’s side extended their lead just three minutes after Merino’s goal though Gabriel Martinelli, who steered a shot into the far corner to give his side breathing space.
Arsenal’s win over Brentford stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to 11 matches with a third straight league win. They now have the chance to cut Liverpool’s lead to three points when they face a trip to Brighton on Saturday
