A 24-year-old man from Dulibadzimu, Beitbridge, has been arr3sted for @llegedly pretending that a rented car was stolen.
Douglas Chinoona is @ccused of working with a friend to illegally send the car to Lusaka, Zambia, where they planned to sell it. He rented a white Toyota GD6 from Good 2 Go Car Rental while staying at a lodge in Harare.
Chinoona claimed he lost US$2,400, which he said was intended for a lobola ceremony, along with the rented car.
He said he had booked the lodge for one night while traveling to Murehwa for the ceremony.

While at the lodge, Chinoona claimed that lodge staff woke him up and told him that two men came with keys, saying they had permission from the car rental company to take the vehicle.
He then reported the @lleged theft to Mabelreign Police Station.
However, after an investigation, Good 2 Go Car Rental stated that the Vehicle Theft Squad (VTS) found out that Chinoona had made up the story.
The investigation revealed that he had plotted with his friend to export the car !llegally.
Chinoona was arr3sted and is now facing charges of vehicle theft and providing false information to the police.
The car rental company also claimed that Chinoona did not have the money for lobola nor any real intention to pay.
They clarified that he was trying to trick them and the police with his story.
