A 24-year-old man from Bulawayo was jailed after causing a series of five accidents in one day while driving recklessly, under the influence of alcohol, and without a driver’s license.
The incidents occurred on December 26 of last year, when Previous Moyo’s decision to visit his girlfriend ended in chaos.
The trouble began when Previous Moyo took his sister Sithembinkosi Chisenzi’s car keys without her permission while she was away in Masvingo.

He discovered the keys hidden in her wardrobe and decided to drive to the city center of Bulawayo.
His reckless journey started on 8th Avenue near City Hall, where he collided with another vehicle from behind and fled the scene. Undeterred, he continued driving dangerously and soon caused another accident at the intersection of 8th Avenue and Joshua Mqabuko Street, once again escaping without stopping.
Moyo’s spree of accidents continued as he made a U-turn and headed towards the Parklands suburb. There, he struck another vehicle on an unnamed road and another accident followed on Coghlan Avenue, where he again chose to flee.
However, his luck ran out when he collided with a cyclist a few minutes later. The cyclist was able to apprehend Moyo and brought him to the Khumalo Police Base, where he was subsequently arrested.
Before Bulawayo Magistrate Ernest Muzembi, Previous faced five counts of negligent driving and pleaded guilty to all charges. Considering the public outcry over lenient penalties for traffic offenders, Magistrate Muzembi emphasized the need for severe consequences to deter such behavior.
Despite acknowledging that Previous Moyo was a first-time offender and that none of the accidents resulted in fatalities or significant damage, the magistrate imposed a seven-month prison sentence in light of the risks he posed to the public.
