A recent police operation in Pumula South, Bulawayo, led to the arrest of 38 minors attending a Vuzu party. The police acted on a tip-off from vigilant neighbors and found unused cond0ms, alc0h0l, and other substances at the scene.
According to Zimpapers, the party, attended by students from various schools, including COH&H College and Northlea High School, raised concerns about social media’s role in organizing such gatherings.
According to Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the police received the tip-off on October 11, 2024, and upon arrival, searched the house and children, revealing the incriminating items. The minors claimed they were celebrating a birthday party without their parents’ knowledge.
The police released the children into their parents’ custody and referred them to Mpilo Hospital for medical examination.
Residents and authorities have expressed concerns about the increasing number of Vuzu parties and the ease with which minors can organize and attend them via social media.
Neighborhood watch committee member Mrs. Phumulani Khumalo emphasized the importance of parental responsibility and community involvement in preventing such incidents.
