THREE suspected cattle rustlers from Wedza have been arrested and a herd of 29 cattle recovered after an operation conducted by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in the district.
The three suspects Albert Nyamuramba, Percy and Agnes Mudyiwa were remanded in custody to the 22nd of this month when they appeared at the Marondera Magistrates Court.
The suspects, who are targeting the expensive Boran breed, were arrested after an operation which included farmers and the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
Farm manager Shepard Mutsiwa said, “We thank the ZRP for this operation which saw us recovering our cattle, we hope to recover more in the coming days.”
“We invested a lot in this cattle project and for someone to just come and still is not good. I am glad they were arrested,” said a farm owner, Musolini Ganyo.
Police have vowed to leave no stone unturned in weeding society of cattle rustlers.
“As ZRP, we are working flat out to ensure those targeting our farmers are arrested. We also warn those receiving stolen cattle that the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them,” said ZRP Mashonaland East Assistant Commissioner, Patrick Majuta.
In January alone, 52 cases of stock theft comprising 93 cattle were recorded in the Mashonaland East province, leading to 17 arrests.
