A man from Masvingo shocked the court when he explained why he st0le a water tank.
Ernest Chamisa, 24, told Magistrate Isaac Chikura that he st0le the tank to sell it and get money for baby supplies for his pregnant wife.
Chamisa was found guilty of th3ft and will do community service starting August 15, 2024.
According to the prosecutor, Nobukhosi Moyo, Chamisa stole a 1000-liter water tank worth $80 from a home in Victoria Ranch on June 11. He then sold the tank to someone who makes bricks.

The owner of the tank, Roy Farai Sanzvenga, found out and reported it to the police on August 12.
Chamisa claimed he found the tank on the roadside and took it because he needed money to prepare for his baby’s arrival.
A similar story story, a South African man stole a bicycle from a local park.
He said he needed the money from selling the bike to buy groceries for his family, as they were struggling.
The man was caught, and the court heard his story before deciding on his punishment.
