Chelsea FC which seem to be in English Premier League tittle race has suffered a second defeat in four days. The Blues ended their 2024 game with a 2-0 defeat against Ispwich Town on Monday night.
Chelsea falling behind as early as the 12th minute when Filip Jorgensen was adjudged to have brought down Liam Delap in the area and thus conceded a penalty from which the Ipswich striker broke the deadlock with an emphatic finish.
To Chelsea’s credit, they were extremely unfortunate to have trailed at the break as Joao Felix had a goal disallowed following a lengthy VAR check, Cole Palmer was twice denied by the woodwork, Enzo Fernandez had a close range effort blocked and Moises Caicedo as well as Christopher Nkunku both went close.
Chelsea gifted Ipswich chances but took none of their own and after all the praise, Maresca must now take his medicine after such a woeful week. A draw with Everton, a loss to Fulham, and now defeat by Ipswich, a game in which the visitors paid the price for their changes.
Enzo Maresca’s side got only a point from three games, sited on fourth place in the Premier League table and that is where they will remain heading into the new year.
