The City of Bulawayo has issued a statement clarifying that Deputy Mayor Councillor Edwin Ndlovu and Chairperson of the Finance and Development Committee, Councillor Mpumelelo Moyo, are not suspended.
The City of Bulawayo emphasized that the councillors remain fully engaged in their respective roles and responsibilities within the local government structure, despite the legal matters they are currently facing.
The clarification comes in response to public confusion regarding the status of the two councillors who are on remand over corruption allegations. In a press release issued by the council, it was revealed that after seeking clarification from the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, the Ministry confirmed that the two councillors are not affected by the Minister’s Directive issued on February 22, 2022.
The statement assured residents that both Councillor Ndlovu and Councillor Moyo will continue serving the community and fulfilling their duties as councillors while the legal proceedings are ongoing.
The two were recently appeared in court and have been granted US$100 bail each by the High Court of Zimbabwe following their arrest by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) last month after allegedly demanding a US$20,000 bribe from Chinese Investors.
