THE director of a local company yesterday appeared in court charged with theft of trust property for allegedly failing to hand over more than R422 500 he collected when he sold 2 100 ceiling boards on behalf of a man who financed the stocking of the boards.

Elson Kufa, director of Builders Power House based in Murehwa, appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi charged with theft of trust property.

Prosecuting, Mr Zebediah Bofu alleged that on October 5, Kufa approached Mr Francis Kawaza at his home and advised him that he was in the business of supplying ceiling boards through Builders Power House.

He also said he could help Mr Kawaza acquire a gold buying licence.

Mr Kawaza was interested in both deals, but opted to start by funding the supply of ceiling boards. Kufa supplied the banking details of a board supplier and Mr Kawaza transferred R422 573,50, which included transport fees, to Tensent Investments Pvt Ltd.

The money was for the supply of 2 100 ceiling boards which were delivered to Kufa to sell and then remit the money to Kawaza.

Kufa sold all the ceiling boards through Builders Hub which is located in Harare.

After learning that Kufa had sold the consignment, Mr Kawaza approached him to collect the money, but to no avail.

Kufa kept on giving various excuses on different occasions resulting in Mr Kawaza making a report to the police.

Mr Kawaza lost R422 573,50 and recovered nothing.
