In a sh0cking incident that occurred on Christmas Day, a Correctional Services Officer named Ndhlera took his own life while on duty at the residence of Justice Chatukuta in Marlborough, Harare.
He used an AK-47 rifle in this tr@gic event, which unfolded around 5:45 AM.
According to an internal police memo obtained by H-Metro, the incident was reported to ZRP Marlborough under case number RRB 6264217.
The memo details that Chief Superintendent Mukombachoto received a telephone report at approximately 6:00 AM regarding the situation that had transpired earlier that day.
While on guard duty, Ndhlera, identified by his officer number 2939614G from the CPU section, was accompanied by a fellow officer, Dziripi (2939175E).
The two were seated in the guard room when Ndhlera suddenly grabbed the AK-47 rifle from the table and sprinted outside, moving about 15 to 20 meters north within the security wall surrounding the property.

Witnessing Ndhlera’s alarming actions, Dziripi instinctively fled, jumping over the wall to take cover in the neighboring property. Moments later, a gunshot rang out. Fearing the worst, Dziripi climbed back over the wall and looked down to see Ndhlera lying on the ground beneath a tree.
Dziripi immediately notified his superiors about the incident, marking a tr@gic start to the holiday. The unexpected event has raised serious concerns about the mental health and wellbeing of correctional officers assigned to high-pressure duties.
