Dr. Ikenna Erinne, a 36-year-old Nigerian cardiologist based in the United States, has reportedly d!ed by su!cide after losing a child support case against his ex-wife.
The heartbreaking event occurred on January 26, 2025.
Hailing from Anambra State, Dr. Erinne had been embroiled in a lengthy legal battle concerning d!vorce and child custody.
Clayton Udo, a Nigerian-American, confirmed the incident on X.com, stating that an onerous court ruling imposed a significant financial burden on Dr. Erinne, which he believes contributed to the tragedy.
“The mistreatment of African men in the United States must end,” Udo remarked. “In a devastating situation, Dr. Ikenna Erinne, a well-trained cardiologist, allegedly took his own life after being ordered by a court to pay $15,000 monthly in child support following an arduous d!vorce.

This incident underscores deep-rooted systemic issues in the legal system that disproportionately affect African men.”
According to Udo, who claims expertise in psychological and emotional abuse, Dr. Erinne had expended thousands of dollars on legal fees before the court’s decision. He alleged that the stress of the case led to Dr. Erinne losing his medical license, culminating in his tr@gic end.
“He took his own life after enduring tremendous financial and emotional strain,” Udo shared. “He spent a fortune in legal fees—money that has been, tragically, wasted. This is a process designed to impoverish you. He lost his medical career as a cardiologist and was left with a $15,000 monthly child support obligation, all while facing limited access to his children.”
Obim Onujiogu, another member of the Nigerian community in the U.S., also confirmed Dr. Erinne’s d2ath in a Facebook post, celebrating him as a compassionate healer and devoted family man.
Dr. Erinne’s funeral is scheduled for February 3, 2025, in Maryland. In a heartfelt tribute, Onujiogu shared, “In Loving Memory of Dr. Ikenna C. Erinne. The ASA DC family mourns the unexpected and devastating passing of Dr. Ikenna Erinne. He was a cherished father, son, brother, and esteemed cardiologist who left us on January 26, 2025.”
Born on March 4, 1988, Dr. Erinne is survived by his two children, Ugonna and Munachi, his parents, Engr. Chris and Mrs. Chinwe Erinne, and his siblings, Chuks, Onyi, Kenny, and Gechi.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home in Elkridge, MD, on February 3, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by interment at Meadowridge Memorial Park.
