On New Year’s Eve, a 19-year-old man named Van Goman was apprehended by police in Kanengo, Lilongwe, Malawi, after he posed as a female prost!tute.
The incident unfolded when a motorist, mistaking Van for a woman, picked him up from the roadside, leading to an unexpected confrontation.
According to the police statement, Van had altered his appearance by dressing in women’s clothing and using synthetic hair extensions to accentuate his feminine features.
The police reported that he stood by the roadside fully intending to deceive passing drivers into believing he was a female s3x worker.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the local police described how the motorist, having stopped for Van, later took him to a rest house where, to his shock, he discovered that the “woman” he had picked up was, in fact, a man. Upon realizing he had been deceived, the man promptly reported the incident to the police.
The spokesperson for the police acknowledged that Van’s feminine appearance could easily mislead others. “At first glance, anyone could mistake Van for a woman; he possesses strikingly feminine features,” the PRO stated.
Following the report, Van was arrested and is set to appear in court on charges of soliciting immoral purposes, in violation of Section 180, subsection (e) of the Malawian Penal Code.
The police maintained that Van’s actions could be seen as an attempt to use his appearance for ulterior motives, including potential theft.

Interestingly, when approached for details about the motorist who mistakenly solicited Van’s services, the police declined to disclose his identity.
The publicist stated that there had been directives from higher authorities not to reveal the complainant’s details, emphasizing that he had committed no crime by simply picking up someone he believed to be a prostitute.
“When asked why the complainant wasn’t arrested, the police spokesperson responded, ‘As far as we are concerned, he has not committed any crime. Picking up a prostitute is not illegal,’” she stated.
Despite further inquiries about the management directives she mentioned, the spokesperson maintained a firm stance on protecting the complainant’s identity, even stating, “I work on orders, and I will not disclose any further information.”
No further updates were provided following the initial statement, leaving many questions unanswered about the incident.
