Shylock Zulu, a 28-year-old man from Mashala Village in Hwange, has been sentenced to six months in jail for stealing a goat from his neighbor, Thabani Sibanda.
Zulu was charged with stock theft, and after a full trial, the prosecution presented compelling evidence against him.
On January 8 of this year, Zulu took the goat belonging to Sibanda, slaughtered it, and later approached Sibanda’s homestead to sell the meat back to him for US$15, deceitfully claiming it was bush buck meat.

Sibanda grew suspicious when he recognized the meat as potentially being from his missing goat.
The investigation that followed ultimately led to Zulu’s arrest.
Although he was sentenced to six months in prison, he managed to evade a full custodial sentence; half of his term was suspended on the condition that he refrains from committing similar offenses for the next five years.
Additionally, the court suspended the remaining three months of the sentence on the stipulation that Zulu pays restitution of ZWG$1057 to the complainant.
