A Harare man, Richard Nenhowe, who escaped jail time for murdering his girlfriend in 2019, has committed suicide. Nenhowe was found dead on Saturday, with relatives revealing that he had been battling trauma and guilt over his past actions.
In 2019, Nenhowe strangled his girlfriend, Angela Dapi, at Elizabeth Hotel during a weekend getaway. He then attempted to take his own life and was later hospitalized and stood trial. Despite being found mentally unstable at the time of the murder, Nenhowe was pardoned in 2020.
However, those close to him say Nenhowe never truly moved on from the incident. He reportedly struggled with financial and emotional difficulties in the days leading up to his death. Sources claim that Nenhowe often spoke about seeing Angela’s ghost, which tormented him until his death.
Nenhowe’s final moments were marked by controversy. He was drinking with friends when he allegedly ingested a pill, collapsing shortly after. His burial was also marred by controversy, with some family members expressing anger and frustration.
The community is now concerned that Nenhowe’s unsettled spirit may haunt them, given the violent nature of his past
