Hwange Homeowners Face Fines For Not Displaying House Number
In a tweet on Tuesday morning, Hwange Local Board advised property owners in its area of jurisdiction to number their premises or face hefty fines.
In the statement dated 25 July, Hwange Acting Town Secretary P. Mabhureni announces that due to fresh changes in the by-laws and the Urban Councils Act, it’s now mandatory for property owners to put their addresses right on the front of their houses or gates.
He lists that the plaque showing the address must be at least 75 millimetres high; visible from the street and is maintained in a legible condition at all times.
Property owners are given until the end of this month to comply with the directive or have the fine included as part of their September bill.
We would like to advise residents that in-line with the newly amended by-laws and the Urban Councils Act, Hwange Local Board has made it mandatory for homeowners to display their property number outside, be it anywhere visible on the front of their premise or by the gate.
For purposes of easy identification by any member of the Service in an emergency, every owner or occupier of premises must ensure that the correct stand number of the premises is displayed clearly on the street boundary of the premises, using numbers at least 75 millimetres high; visible from the street and is maintained in a legible condition at all times.
Failure to comply with the amended by-law by 31 August 2023 will be considered as Level 2 offence and it will attract a fine of up to USD 40 or equivalent at the prevailing inter-market exchange rate, which will be included on property owners’ September 2023 bill.
A fine of USD 10 (high density), USD 15 (medium density), USD 20 (low density), USD 25 (commercial) and USD 40 (industrial light or heavy) or equivalent at the prevailing inter-market exchange rate will be charged to property owners for failure to display numbers on premises.
