At the Harare Civil Court, Joyce Garikayi sought a protection order against her spouse, Jack Mukandwe, revealing the distressing details of their relationship.
Joyce stated that Jack’s unusual practice of using chilli in their s3xual encounters caused her persistent itching and severe discomfort. “My private areas have reacted badly, always itching due to the chilli. In a surprising turn, Jack did not refute the allegations, admitting to his experimentation after hearing about it from friends who claimed to have similar experiences in their own relationships.
Joyce further detailed a pattern of physical and emotional @buse, explaining that Jack often beat her with an electricity cable and verbally berated her in front of their children.
She recounted incidents where Jack reacted violently, even tearing asbestos from their roof when upset. Fearing for her safety, Joyce eventually returned to her parents’ home but claimed that Jack continued to stalk and intimidate her.
In response to the accusations, Jack expressed regret for his violent behavior, attributing it to his quick temper. He expressed a desire to repair their marriage, but Joyce remained understandably cautious, prioritizing her safety above all else.
Magistrate Meenal Naratom granted Joyce the protection order, underscoring the severity of the emotional and physical @buse she had experienced.
The court’s ruling aimed to ensure Joyce’s safety and prevent any further harm from Jack.
