American rapper-songwriter Kendrick Lamar has bagged five of the 67th Grammy Awards at the prizegiving held in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The rapper beat out Beyonce and the Beatles among other music stars for Record of The Year, winning for his explosive hip-hop anthem Not Like Us. Kendrick winning for his insulting track about Drake seems to further cement who the winner of their rap beef actually is.
Many were in support of Kendrick’s win on X, formerly Twitter, believing it is proof of who came out victorious in the vicious diss track battle between the two rap superstars that happened last year.
Lamar, who is scheduled to headline the Super Bowl halftime show next weekend, dedicated his record of the year win to his native Los Angeles, including fire-ravaged areas like the Palisades and Altadena. “We gonna dedicate this one to the city: Compton, Watts, Long Beach, Inglewood, Hollywood out to the valley,” Lamar said. “This is my neck of the woods that’s held me down since I was a young pup.”
