A devastating incident has shaken the Kalikiliki community in Lusaka, Zambia, after a 21-year-old man, Victor Mvula, took his own life in the early hours of Friday morning.
The tragic event occurred just hours after Victor’s father, Plyson Mvula, had counselled him to change his ways and stop moving late at night and associating with bad friends. According to police reports, Victor’s parents had expected him to be home on Thursday evening, but he only returned in the early hours of Friday, at around 01:00 hours.
After his return, Victor’s father took the opportunity to advise him against his late-night escapades and the company he kept. The father’s wise counsel was motivated by a desire to see his son lead a better life, free from the influences of bad friends and the dangers of moving late at night.
However, the conversation seemed to have had a profound impact on Victor, who remained in the sitting room after his father went back to bed. Tragically, just a few hours later, Victor’s body was discovered hanging from a mango tree in the yard by his brother-in-law, Blessings Jere, who was leaving for work at around 05:30 hours. The family was left in shock and grief as they reported the incident to the police.
Zambia Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, confirmed the incident and revealed that officers had rushed to the scene to inspect the body. The police found Victor’s body dressed in black jeans, a white T-shirt, and black shoes, with no visible inj_ries other than those consistent with hanging.
The body has since been transported to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the precise cause of de@th.
The police have extended their condolences to the bereaved family and friends, while investigations into the matter continue.
