A Harare couple’s 25-year marriage has hit the rocks, with the wife alleging verbal and sexual harassment. The wife, Happiness Moyo, took her husband, Tedious Mudzana, to the Harare Civil Court, citing his failure to pay bride price to her family as a contributing factor to their marital woes.
Moyo claimed that Mudzana has been verbally and sexually harassing her, particularly after she paid medical bills. She stated that he insulted her, saying that her payment made up for the money he claimed to have paid for her mother’s burial.
“We have been staying together as husband and wife for 25 years, and we have five children. He never paid any money to my family as bride price in all those years.
“He verbally and sexually harasses me in public. He insulted me after I paid his medical bills, saying that it makes up for the money he paid for my mother’s burial,” she said.
Mudzana did not deny the allegations but argued that his wife has been refusing him conjugal rights for six months. He also mentioned that she refused his proposal to marry another wife.
“I have no issues with the order, but she has been refusing me conjugal rights for over six months now. She also refused my proposal to marry another wife.”
Presiding magistrate Meenal Narotam ordered Mudzana not to insult and sexually harass Moyo. The court’s decision highlights the complexities of marital disputes and the importance of communication in relationships.
