A Mbare thigh vendor garnered attention after she literally walked away with a coffin from a hardware shop, claiming it as compensation for an unpaid US$5 debt.
At the heart of this incident was King Joshua, a man who misrepresented himself as a manager at Ozei Hardware. Under false pretenses, he engaged the thigh vendor in what was supposed to be a transaction, only to default on the payment. In a striking act of defiance, the vendor decided to take matters into her own hands.
Drawing a crowd, she made her dramatic exit with a coffin valued at US$60. Security guards on night duty filmed the incident and subsequently shared the footage on social media, where it went viral.

Ozei, the actual owner of the hardware shop, expressed his disbelief over the situation. He shared that he received a call from the police at around 11 PM, inquiring about activities taking place at his shop. “I had no idea what was happening,” he remarked, revealing that King Joshua had a history of bringing women into the store without his knowledge. “Joshua had been hooking up ladies of the night and bringing them into my hardware shop, all behind my back. I now suspect one of the coffins I lost last year may have disappeared the same way,” he explained.
Dismissing the thigh vendor’s actions, he remarked, “That woman must be crazy to carry a coffin just because of five dollars,” using the phrase, “Mukadzi wacho anenge ane mupengo zvake nekuti haangatakure coffin nekuda kwe five dollars.”
The incident ignited a flurry of reactions on social media as people expressed their disbelief and amusement. User @Godwin Makura tweeted, “Pay for service rendered period,” while @Tatenda Murwiri commented, “Aikaka zvariri drama kkk,” reflecting the general sentiment that the scenario was indeed a dramatic one.
This episode serves as a reminder of the lengths to which people might go when faced with deception and unpaid debts in the most unexpected ways.
