Former Hurungwe West and Norton legislator Temba Mliswa was officially installed as the village head in Ward 5 of Shurugwi South at a colourful ceremony held over the weekend.
The ceremony, saw hundreds of people gathering to witness the momentous occasion.
Mliswa, known for his outspoken nature expressed his gratitude pledged to serve the village with integrity and diligence, promising to work tirelessly for the betterment of the community.
“I am happy to have fulfilled my father’s dream and I want to assure you that this community will change for better. I am an action-oriented person. Already, I have started work by drilling 10 solar powered boreholes for drip irrigation which will serve 50 families within the village.
“The irrigation will focus on horticulture that is your butternut, tomatoes etc. 10 percent of the revenue realised from the horticulture projects will benefit the village. I have been carrying out projects in Hurungwe and Norton and it’s now time for me to carry development work in my home area. The target is to make the position of Sabhuku a developmental cog. Never shall this be a ceremonial seat for petty issues. We are aiming for big things,” said Mliswa
One elderly villager who identified himself as Dlodlo said the installation of Mliswa as village signals a new era in Shurugwi South.
“I have no doubt, the man has shown that he is for development. Look at hoe he has developed his homestead. We saw the installation of solar panels for agriculture projects that will benefit the community,” said Dlodlo
Speaking at the event, guest of honour, Chief Mapanzure praised Mliswa’s commitment to community development and his track record of service.
“We know your track record, what you have done in other communities and we are happy that your developmental goals have now come home. We hope to see more developments in our area,” said Chief Mapanzure
The ceremony was attended by local traditional chiefs who included Chief Banga who presided over the installation service.
The event was capped with a night vigil where guests were treated to contemporary and traditional music.
