President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, the first secretary to the Zanu PF party has today met the infamous music group Mbare Chimurenga Choir at State House in Harare. The members of Mbare Chimurenga Choir were given gifts in form of groceries.
During the event, President Mnangagwa recognized and thanked the founders of Mbare Chimurenga Choirs, he urged them to keep working hard and continue to infusing the new crop of musicians, particularly the youths in their group.
“Going forward, I urge you to continue infusing the new crop of musicians, particularly the youth, into your groups. It is equally important that you broaden the reach of your music, riding on the diversity of ICT platforms,” Mnangagwa said.
The Mbare Chimurenga Choir was well known for their revolutionary songs and energetic dance moves at Zanu PF rallies during the late former President R.G Mugabe’s time in office. Mnangagwa’s kindness and generosity comes after the infamous music group faced online trolling and ridicule after news surfaced that they have fallen on hard times.
Earlier in November, 2024, the once-popular group bemoaned how they are now struggling to find money to record new music.
Netizens asserted that the music group’s time in the spotlight has long passed and that people are no longer interested in their songs and dance moves. Some even suggested that they seek employment, return to their rural homesteads, or focus on family responsibilities like farming or looking after grandchildren.
